Chapter Ten

Breakers, Texas – The next day…

Ash took a deep breath as he stood on the sidewalk in front of Ink This. He was well aware that there was a security camera monitoring the entrance of the tattoo parlor and could practically feel eyes watching him.

Or maybe that was just wishful thinking on his part.

He completely ignored the people passing by him on the sidewalk, unconcerned that he was blocking the flow of Saturday morning pedestrian traffic. Since Breakers was located on a bay right off the Gulf of Mexico, the warmer months brought tons of tourists into town to enjoy the beautiful beaches, scenic boardwalk, and local shops in the downtown area.

But a lot of those shops were closed for the day.

That fact seemed to be confusing the hell out of a lot of the people walking around. Ash wasn’t sure exactly what was going on, but he assumed it had something to do with Hammer and Kali’s upcoming wedding since the gym and bakery they both owned were amongst the shops that weren’t open.

Ink This was also closed, but that wasn’t as unusual considering how early it was. There were no set hours for the tattoo parlor listed online or posted by the door. As far as he knew, the people who worked there made their own hours, and the owner decided who walked through the front door and when.

Now, Ash had to figure out a way to get Nikita to let him in that damn door.

He stared up at the black, red, and silver sign and felt a strange sense of wonder. He had remembered seeing the tattoo parlor during his last visit to Breakers, but what he hadn’t noticed at that time was how similar Nikita’s logo was to his own for Rough and Tough.

Great minds and all that, he thought absently.

Glaring at his reflection in the frosted glass window, he had to admit that he looked like shit. The flight from Tokyo had been long, and he’d driven straight to Breakers after getting off the plane. He wore a pair of faded jeans and a black dress shirt that was wrinkled and untucked. His eyes felt gritty and dry from a lack of sleep, and there was several days’ worth of stubble covering his face.

He usually took more pride in his appearance and probably should have changed after he’d gotten off the plane, but he had only cared about seeing Nikita as soon as possible.

It had only been a few days, but it felt like a lifetime since he’d last seen her.

He blinked in surprise when the front door pushed open, then he glared at the man who stepped out. Jasper Lennox was one of the last people he had expected to see in Breakers. Dressed in a T-shirt and jeans, he looked a lot different than the polished gentleman Ash remembered meeting in New York.

“What the fuck are you doing here, Lennox?”

“Funny, I was going to ask you the same bloody thing,” Jasper said easily, leaning a shoulder against the frosted glass window in a casual pose.
